Last night, under a beautiful full moon, I became a fully professed member of the San Francisco Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. It was a two-year journey, though it started in Dolores Park about 15 years ago when I asked Sister Penny Costal, “Can girls be Sisters?” She told me I’d know when the time was right, and I did — and I got to have my beloved, now Sister Jendra Uforia, by my side the whole way.

I’m thrilled and proud to join this Sisterhood that so proudly and fiercely carries on the tradition of groups like the Cockettes and the Angels of Light — combining street theater and activism, all shot through with an awareness of our common divinity.
